There are few chairs that so completely rewrote the rules of seating. 
Designed by Pierre Paulin for Artifort in 1967, the Tongue Chair abandoned legs, posture, and convention in favour of something altogether more radical - it's form shaped entirely around the human body. The chairs distinctive look comes from Paulin's signature style, developed at furniture house Thonet in the 1950s, where he experimented with stretching swimwear material over chair frames. The design has achieved icon status and holds a place in the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).

This first edition example retains its original black fabric, lending it a rare authenticity.
