About Alessandro Mendini

Alessandro Mendini (1931–2019) was an Italian architect, designer and theorist who became one of the defining voices of Radical and Postmodern design. As editor of influential publications including Casabella, Modo and Domus, he helped shape the conversation around Italian design, championing experimentation, ornament and a more playful approach to everyday objects. His work blurred the boundaries between art, architecture and furniture, often reimagining familiar forms through bold colour, pattern and decoration. Mendini collaborated with leading makers including Alessi and Venini, and co-founded Studio Alchimia, becoming an important influence on the generation of designers that followed.
