Niger by Gerard Taylor is an exceptional, bold and sculptural porcelain vase. It features an asymmetrical combination of geometric forms and lively colours, in the characteristic Memphis style. The visual effect captures the eye, disrupting the aesthetic of the vase-as-vessel while making ceramic become a living, vibrant material in space.

Turned, shaped and hand painted ceramic vase.

Designed in 1983.

Gerard Taylor studied Product design at the Glasgow School of Art and Industrial design at the Royal College of Art in London in the 1980s alongside a generation of designers including Ross Lovegrove, Jonathan Ive and Jasper Morrison. After graduating in 1982, he was hired by Ettore Sottsass in his Milan office. Sottsass became a fixed point and source of continuous inspiration for the young Taylor.

In the same period he was invited to participate in the Memphis experiment. Upon returning to London, Taylor set up a design studio with Daniel Weil. In 1991, Taylor established his eponymous creative consultancy firm focusing on furniture, product design, interior architecture and strategic consulting. He continues to design residential buildings, especially in London.

Taylor deals with and writes about contemporary workplaces, on whose dynamics and changes he regularly lectures around the world.
