The Maralunga became an instant icon of Italian postmodern comfort when Cassina debuted this design by Vico Magistretti in 1973. Legend has it, that during a prototype review, the brand's founder, Cesare Cassina struck the back in frustration, accidentally revealing the now-signature adjustable headrest concealed within its slouched form. That hidden mechanism, operated by a simple bicycle chain beneath the foam cushions, redefined what a sofa could be. This ingenuity secured the Maralunga a place in the permanent collection of the MoMA in New York.

This 2-seater version boasts it's original upholstery, a plush velvet in a subtle raisin pinstripe. It is tailored and dressed sharply, but remains inviting and cozy; it is equally suited to a compact downtown condo or a design-driven family room.
