Belvedere Console by Aldo Cibic

Based on the design of public spaces like subways and stations, Belvedere by Aldo Cibic takes the form of a heavy console in granite, marble and pietra serena. It seems to refer to the classical tradition of architecture in its materials and forms with which Cibic enters an abstract dialogue. Belvedere also impressed the visionary David Bowie becoming, in fact, part of his collection.

Aldo Cibic was born in Schio in the province of Vicenza in 1955. In 1981, as a partner of Sottsass Associati, he was among the first protagonists of Memphis. His projects “Microrealities” (2004) and “Rethinking Happiness” (2010) were presented at the Venice Architecture Biennale. With the Cibic Workshop, a multidisciplinary research centre, he devoted himself to the development of alternative and sustainable project typologies for architecture, interiors and design, aimed at enhancing the territory and defining a new cultural, emotional and environmental awareness. In 2018, he was nominated professor at Tongji University in Shanghai, where he has been teaching for six months of the year ever since. Cibic Workshop opened an office in Shanghai in 2020 with the aim of creating spaces and objects with a high social impact. In 2019, he was selected as a high-level foreign expert by SAFEA ( the State Body for the Certification of Foreign Experts of the People's Republic of China). The architecture magazine Domus included Aldo Cibic in the "100+ best architecture firms 2019" guide, which identifies the best architects in the world who have distinguished themselves for cultural innovation. He is currently a professor at the Domus Academy, the Faculty of Architecture of the Milan Polytechnic, the University of Architecture in Venice and at the aforementioned Tongji University in Shanghai.
