With Casablanca, Ettore Sottsass broke the rules of home décor, in a non-conformist object with a forceful, expressive form, enhanced by the colours and the original patterns printed on plastic laminate. After years of functional minimalism, ornament returned to become an integral part of the object, taking on deeper meanings with sociological-linguistic connotations.
