Generated by a mathematical quartic function, and modeled by an electronic calculator, DETECMA is not only a piece of furniture, but also an icon of radical Italian design. DETECMA seems to cancel the past, the present and the future, integrating perfectly into any contemporary living space as an armchair, a pouf, or a chaise longue.

In the world of design, where form meets function, DETECMA represents a perfect synthesis. Born from a union between design, technology and mathematics in 1967, this armchair is innovative both for the scientific solutions adopted and because it expresses the revolutionary spirit of radical Italian design. Its name is an acronym that reveals its unique genesis, while its organic shape defined with rational parameters reveals the innovative spirit of the project.

DETECMA was born from an idea by Tullio Regge, a brilliant physicist of the
20th century. Thanks to his guidance, Gufram transformed a quartic mathematical function into the ergonomic shape of DETECMA, marking an important milestone in the history of design: the first piece of furniture designed using an electronic calculator to create a shape derived from an open-source parametric equation.
Made of soft polyurethane and fabric, DETECMA cannot be classified. It is an armchair that rebels against conventional forms: it is at the same time a pouf and a chaise longue. Its sinuous line expresses a new vision of living and interior design, anticipating the trends that will mark the following decades.
