Don’t let the plush good looks fool you—this is one of the most iconic shape-shifters in design history. The Anfibio Sofa by Alessandro Becchi for Giovannetti (1970) is equal parts pop art and precision engineering, transforming from loungey leather nest to full-size bed in one satisfying unfurl. Its name means “amphibious,” and like any good shapeshifter, it’s designed for double duty—living room showpiece by day, guest bed by night. A cult favourite among Italian design collectors (it’s even in MoMA’s permanent collection), and still handmade in Tuscany today.

Fun fact: the original campaign called it “an island of comfort for your dreams”—and honestly, they weren’t wrong.
