John Anderson (b. 1940) was born in India and emigrated to Canada in 1953. After earning his MFA from the University of Triton in 1964, he went on to teach art history at Mount Allison University, where his disciplined yet poetic approach to form influenced a generation of young artists. His work emerged alongside the rise of Canadian modernism, with exhibitions at Gallery Moos in Toronto and the Albright-Knox Gallery in Buffalo during the 1970s.
