SUMMERTIME and AUTUMNTIME by Valerio Berruti are inspired by his paintings that portray the small and fleeting beauty of everyday life. The two hand-painted twin sofas are inspired by the warmth of summer and the cool breeze of autumn. Roomy enough to accommodate three people, these sofas also evoke their respective seasons in their choice of colours: with SUMMERTIME in aquamarine tones and
AUTUMNTIME in warm honey tones.

The magic of Berruti’s design lies in the reinterpretation, capable of transforming the original image of a post-war Italian bench into a spacious and comfortable sofa, finished with Gufram’s characteristic Guflac® Plus upholstery. The versatility of the bench allows these sofas to fit perfectly into a family living room or a garden among flowers and trees, blurring the boundary between art and design.

The blurred boundary between art and design, embodied by the sofas, is also implied in the title of the project. Taking inspiration from Gershwin’s famous song, “Summertime,” the name immediately evokes these words: “and the living is easy.” And, in fact, with the serene beauty of SUMMERTIME and AUTUMNTIME, living becomes
a pleasant experience.
