Executed in ink and watercolour circa 1950, the composition captures the speed and confidence of a designer thinking directly on paper. Jean Porcher (1927–2011) studied at the Beaux-Arts before training with Jean Souverbie, André Lhote, and Fernand Léger, later creating stage sets and costumes for the Théâtre National Populaire (TNP).
