Created in 1984, Pairings comes from the early career of German artist Sibylle Ungers, born in 1960. Working with a restrained vocabulary of geometric forms, Ungers developed a distinctive visual language that blurred the line between drawing and painting, often depicting solid structures that dissolve into soft fields of colour.
