Like looking down a narrow corridor, the eye is gently pulled from one soft layer to the next.

Created in 1974, this mixed media work is by German artist Hans-Jürgen Karius (1947), who studied at the Kölner Werkschulen before completing his studies as a Meisterschüler at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. A painter and draughtsman, Karius drew inspiration from nature and the landscape, reducing familiar impressions to delicate abstract compositions.
